Introduction
 
English for Business Preliminary Level

LCCI English for Business Preliminary Level (EFB) is intended for candidates who have achieved a fundamental understanding of English in a business context and who have the ability to use the language in a practical way at a very basic level.

English for Business Preliminary Level will teach you how to answer some brief questions in your work in a business context, and enable you to write a brief summary of business information.

You will learn how to:

1. identify relevant data, facts, and instructions appropriately from simple texts.
2. deal with basic business phone conversation and written memos, and convey the information to a third party.
3. recognize simple verb tense, such as the present tense, the present progressive, the simple past tense, the present perfect tense, future tense, modal verbs, more complex imperatives and so on.
4. recognize simple adverbs, adjectives, possessive pronouns, indefinite pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, quantifiers, articles, etc.
5. question and answer the general interrogative (yes / no); identify and use interrogatives.
6.  express existence, location(east, west, south and north).  
7. express time, frequency, shape, temperature, colour and weight; use singular or plural forms of nouns.
8. introduce yourself properly and use basic social language within a business context.  
9. talk about topics such as accommodation, travel, business, catering, work position, office furniture, currency name and so on.
10. express greetings, apologies, gratitude and use other phone greetings.

Successful candidates may go on to take the First Level of the LCCIEB English for Business (EFB) qualification.

English for Business L1

LCCI English for Business Level 1 (EFB1) is intended for candidates who have achieved a sound basic understanding of English in a business context, equivalent to Council of Europe A1 (Breakthrough) level, gained either through previous learning or employment or both, and who have the ability to use the language at a basic functional level.
 
EFB1 will teach you how to write simple business letters, use basic business materials and communicate with people properly and clearly in working environment and social occasions. In this book we will provide you with modern business situations. EFB1 will help you to express yourself more confident either in written or oral way. 
 

You will learn how to:
 
1. write letters or memos with proper format, tone and length on the basis of given data with a particular aim or instruction; make sure your writing is fluent and readable.
2. adopt consistent business practices, including the writing method of format, address, salutation, language style and conclusion wording.
3. improve your reading comprehension; select appropriate and brief information from the passage to support your opinions about the statements.
4. read and understand a table or chart; compare the information in order to answer simple questions based on the data contained in a table or chart.
5. understand given material or data and select from the material to complete a chart or list; make sure to use appropriate, precise and accurate wording.
6. recognize simple verb tense, such as the present tense, the present progressive, the simple past tense, the present perfect tense, future tense, modal verbs, passive voice, the past progressive, the past perfect tense and so on.
7. recognize adverbs, adjectives, possessive pronouns, indefinite pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, quantifiers, interrogative sentences, subordinate clauses, etc.8. express distance, location, direction.
9. express time, frequency and ideas on quality evaluation or other situations.
10. use English for greetings, participating in activities, making suggestions, meeting, negotiating with customers, reserving a hotel room or arranging relevant activities.    
11. talk about job title, company internal relationship, office equipment and the daily work, quantity, distribution and transportation, basic product description, basic equipment operation instruction; identify the simple mistake, symptoms and arrangement of remedial measures
12. express wish, preference, apologies, gratitude, misunderstanding and social communicating.
 
 

Candidates who study EFB1 should have the ability to use the language at a basic functional level. Successful candidates may go on to take the Second Level of the LCCIEB English for Business (EFB) qualification.

                                                                    English for Business L2
 
LCCI English for Business Level 2 (EFB2) is intended for candidates who have achieved a sound understanding of English in a business context, equivalent to Council of Europe A2 (Waystage) level, gained either through previous learning or employment or both, and who are able to communicate in a familiar business situation effectively, and with only minimal assistance or supervision.
 
EFB2 will teach you to use the right tone, form, format and contents to do effective business writing with a particular purpose. Business English will help you use modern speaking and writing skills to successfully communicate with people in a business context.

You will learn how to:

1. write letters to provide or confirm information, to deal with complaints, accept congratulations, apologize and so on.
2. use clear and appropriate format to write leaflets for the company’s specific activities, special offers and sales.
3. write report on customer opinion, work investigation, departmental investigation, investigation of the complaint and other business-related topics.
4. write business articles on occupational area, background of institution or your workday with a powerful beginning , logical order, sensible argument and suitable end.
5. group and select useful information and take notes in a clear, logical way.
6. use memos with the correct language, tone and the right format to send messages, confirm decision and make explanation.
7. write effective company notice on the office standards and operation, department change, program changes, apology and other topics.8. identify common verb forms (passive voice,the past progressive, subordinate clauses, V-ing, etc. ), descriptive adjectives, indefinite pronouns, relative pronouns, quantifiers, etc.
9. express distance, location, time, quantity, quality, direction, etc, on base the basis of given information and business communication.
10. master the following vocabulary in different field: personal identity and family relations, character temper, physiological characteristics, communication(greetings, weather, interests, entertainment, sports, politics, etc.), entertaining visitors, the company’s assets(furniture, cost, facilities, area, etc.), accommodation(hotel, indicating), travel (taxi, railway, aircraft, passport, safety, etc.), work place, purchasing (order, cancellation, trade), etc.
11. use English to think about your career and major, working relationship, to write letters, deal with daily work and training, etc.
12. express wish, preference, opinion, apologies, gratitude, forecast, regret, resentment, anger and agreement.
 
Candidates who study EFB2 are able to communicate in a familiar business situation effectively, and with only minimal assistance or supervision. Successful candidates may go on to take the Third Level of the LCCIEB English for Business (EFB) qualification.

English for Business L3

LCCI English for Business Level 3 (EFB3) is an advanced English course, so that the candidates can understand and write articles with different format and style used for various business situation.
 
EFB3 will teach you with advanced information on translation skills, clear and effective letter writing, and the use of the most suitable language forms. EFB3 will help you easily understand English and naturally communicate with people in English in most business context.

You will learn how to:

1. use right tone and commercial practice to write letter with proper length, logic order, so that it can convey the necessary information and achieve the desired goal.
2. adopt some common norms of writing letter, including the format, address, salutation, greetings, language style and conclusion wording.
3. collect first-hand information and make necessary supplement to complete a business report in a clear and well-organised manner.
4. observe the standard conventions for report writing determined by the purpose of the report and the nature of information given; employ correct and stylistically appropriate, matter-of-fact language; meet the requirements of internal distribution of the report within the firm.
5. fully understand business-related newspapers, magazines, company reports, the contents of the letters and business text with other formats.
6. identify and deal with the dispute, prejudice and small trick; get information from different sources in order to handle various problems.
7. change and rewrite memos, faxes, letters, articles and excerpts, telephone records, indexes, and other forms of information and data.
8. use proper language structure to express attitude, declaration, opinions, arguments, etc.
9. express concepts such as: existence, location, distance, motion, direction(destination, prepositions),arrangement, dimension(size, weight, volume), time(duration, frequency), number(fractions, negative/positive), quantity(percent, calculate), quality(shape, visibility, texture, material, smell), evaluation(quality, acceptability, opinion).
10. master the following vocabulary in different field: personal identity and interpersonal relationships(personality, character, work team), interests (hobbies, sports, mass media and current affairs), travel (traffic tool, to talk about the journey), Business accommodations (accommodation, regional analysis), transaction (price, payment, exchange rates, transactions and conditions, negotiations).
11. talk about topics such as: salary, work time, holiday, daily work, health and safety, accident reporting, equipment operating instructions, technical proposals, prospects.
12. express opinion, disagreement and solve communication problems. 

Candidates who study EFB3 are able to communicate in a familiar business situation effectively, and with only minimal assistance or supervision.
